METALOCK is the process of making cold repairs in cracked, broken or weakened machine parts or pressure vessels of cast or forged metals.
Techniques:
| METALOCK is a custom formed lock or key made of special alloys. The size and number of METALOCKS vary with conditions and the amount of strength to be restored to the fractured metal. Slots are cut transverse to the fracture and METALOCKS are inlaid by cold working into the parent metal. Thus, the locks hold cracked or broken pieces together and restore strength to fractured sections. |  |

MASTERLOCK describes a method of repair using an inlay of high-strength alloy plate. These plates are inlaid at points of high stress concentration in broken castings or in unbroken sections subject to overloading and subsequent fracture. MASTERLOCKS are held in place by dowels cold worked into matching half holes between the parent metal and the lock. The size and shape of MASTERLOCKS vary with the requirements of each repair. |
| INTERLOCK is a variation of the MASTERLOCK. Holes of various designs are cut into the plate. When the parent metal is cut out to fit the form of the INTERLOCK, 'islands' of parent metal, which fill the holes in the INTERLOCK, provide additional strength in shear. This type of lock is generally used in weak castings or in steel where some advantage may be gained by utilizing the support of the parent metal more efficiently. |

METALACE designates the method of sealing cracks against leakage. Holes are drilled and tapped and METALOY * studs or dowels are inserted tangent to each other along the line of fracture. The studs are cold worked to ensure tightness and complete filling of the crack with new metal. METALACE is used in conjunction with METALOCKS to accomplish a pressure tight joint and to lend rigidity to all METALOCK repairs. |

GUARANTEE: METALOCK repairs are made by
service technicians who are highly trained in their profession. All repairs
are guaranteed against leakage, extension of crack, and breakage of lock
and breakage of parent metal within the repaired area. The length of the
guarantee period can vary, according to the type of equipment and the nature
of the equipment's service.
METALOY designates a series of high strength alloys used in METALOCK
repairs. These alloys include metals having a selective range of thermal
expansion coefficients. Most corrosive and galvanic conditions can be met
by this series of alloys.
